Sonnets ~ Uwais Coetzee

Sonnet 2

The enjoyment of this place
didn't compare to you.
But you lived at your own pace
and alone you grew.

Leaving me the single seed
in the forest, all alone.
I was enveloped by greed
and you became fully grown.

You left me to be the only stump
forced to listen to my heart's lonely thump
living in a world, being unappreciated

more and more, slowly being hated
for being me and feeling a certain way,
losing people I love every single day.

Sonnet 3

Trying to feel these things
to fit in with society.
Problems it brings
because I'm not normal, you see?

"The light in the dark
and the dark in the light
makes me want to embark
on a journey tonight"

To the lengths of the sky
he wanted to fly.
"But life is not eternal"

he said with a sigh.
Conveying his knowledge while on his deathbed.
"Live out my dreams" - the last thing he ever said.

Sonnet 4

Why I love you
is simple to me.
But my love which is true
is not normal, you see?

I love, from the bottom of my heart
and love comes from the depths of the soul.
Love, however, may not start.
But this love can be whole.

Although love is love,
love can be sore
and will hurt you right down to your core.

This is why I love,
it's the opposite, you see?
Not for love but for the pain you take away from me.

Is It Normal? ~ Uwais Coetzee

is it normal for me to feel exposed?
is it normal for me to feel open?
is it normal for me to be this moody?
is it normal for me to be hoping?
i find pictures, poetry,
music and people who
say, sound and feel as if they
know my struggle.
as if they know my pain.
as if i'm not standing alone
getting wet in the rain.
as if they could understand
the fundamentals of my thoughts.
as if they could know who i am.
but who brings logic to feelings?
who speaks words to pain?
we can't talk properly.
we can't begin to explain
how we experience life
or feel from day to day.
we have all had a painful love.
we have all felt that way.
we have all changed ourselves in little ways
to try to get someone to care.
we try to be "normal".
because all we do is compare.
i think that others feel the same
or at least i hope.
it's a way of not being alone
it's a method of trying to cope.
in a world of different perspectives.
in a place with different lives
living the same struggles
in different ways.
is the way i express my
pain normal?
is it normal?

Stolen Memories & Other Poems ~ Uwais Coetzee

STOLEN MEMORIES

The memories we made
were ours to keep.
And dream up new ones when
we went to sleep.
Happy ones , sad ones,
ones to cherish forever.
We kept them with us
and forgot them never.
Not even when we spoke less
And were talking like we didn't know.
Acting like strangers
Like together we didn't grow.
Maybe I was the one growing,
and you simply moved on.
I slowly realized the truth.
We'd never started but we were done.
Finished before beginning
That's a sad way to say it.
Although it's a sad experience
So the description is fit.
Our memories slipped ,
Into the space where you stood.
You walked and
Started looking good.
You were happier
I was alone.
But I never complained
I'd never moan.
Just a fake smile
To make things seen okay
but I wasn't
When alone I lay.
You left me thinking ,
about everything that day.
You stole our memories
when you walked away

WHERE THINGS WERE DIFFERENT

we wanted a place
where things were different
where crying was normal
and tears were understood.
we wanted a place
where the screams were silence
where the lies were truth
and where love didn't hurt.
we wanted a place
where we could be us
where they could be them
where You could be Mine.
but that place didn't exist ,
the one where we were happy,
where people could understand
without needing to speak.
where the silence spoke volumes
and depression was joy
where tears stayed in our eyes
and didn't have to leave.
we looked and looked
for that different place ,
different like us ,
where I could hide my face.
where nobody would look
for my reasons for being sad
because here my reason is unexplained
but they don't understand that.
they don't understand.
some things are best left alone.
some rocks don't need uncovering.
some boxes don't need opening.
some days
don't need smiles.
And sometimes
just sometimes
we find this different place
where our sadness is normal
and you live at your pace.
where all the people have one thing in common
the common thing being our differences.
where we don't question our change.
don't question us on anything.
where some boxes are left closed
and some days don't have smiles.
where here you aren't judged
for sobbing on the tiles.
for wanting silence
and to live at your own pace.
for silence is all we'd hear
in this oh so different place.

ONCE UPON A TIME

Once upon a time
Before we got old
When we lived the summer
And hated the cold.
When we smiled all the time
and crying was for the weak
and times in class
were nothing but bleak.
Once upon a time
When we were free
when you could try anything
that you could see
when you were friends with everybody
and everyone could play
and nobody worried
about the things you'd say.
How times have changed
Like the leaves on the tree.
And the only person I could truly trust
was me.
I stood for what I wanted
But I stood alone.
And everyone suddenly
Became a drone.
We lived our lives
Seeking the cold
And crying was normal.
Or so we were told.
Now nobody is constant
And everything will change.
If you try to capture the past
suddenly you're too deranged.
Now people don't care
About the one who stands alone.
People don't care
About the one they had to trust.
People don't care about you.
They don't care.
Now they walk around
With hearts all bare
But smiling faces.
Like they don't care.
They go to school
Go home
And leave you there standing
Alone.
Once upon a time
When happiness was mine.
Once upon a time
When things were fine.

Mangaliso Xaba ~ Two Poems

STORYLINE

The pain I’ve ever felt
Comes back to haunt me every now and then.
The sad stories I’ve ever kept,
Are leading me closer to a lion’s den.
The pressure that I have dealt
Keeps adding weight upon my strength.
Am I still living life
Or I’m just not living right?
Even with my eyes closed
My emotions still pose.
Even with a crowd
My face is always in a frown.
Is this life fair
Or is it just a nightmare?
Nobody seems to ever care
Because nobody can ever dare
To live my life, as it is not a funfair.
PILLS and POTIONS roaming in my mind,
Am I next in the suicidal line?
Is there ever going to be a soul to remember this life of mine?

I MISS HER

Being without her feels like I’ve lost an important key
She said I should move on and let me and her be.
That pained like an open wound being seasoned by a breeze,
It’s still too difficult for me to find peace.
She tells me her man can afford her a weave
And I’m just  a schoolboy bugging her like a bee.
I tell her that her relationship is not based on Love but on a spree,
She thinks she’s made it in Love but she is not free.
I should be intimidated by her as she’s always on fire
But my Love for her is too deep, she’s my desire.

Restless Soul ~ Mangaliso Xaba

Sitting alone in the dark at night
thinking how I can make things right
everything is just out of my might.
Dark clouds roaming in my mind,
nightmares reach me even out of sight
I keep wondering when will I ever see the light.
Every time they see me, I say I’m alright,
I’m in a facade making sure that all appears bright.
Been gambling with my life, always rolling a die
My soul keeps wondering, when the body will ever die.
Can’t wait to let the bad emotions fly sky high
and let the restless soul rest in flight.
Dark clouds roaming in my mind.
Will I ever be alright?

You Are ~ Tevell Iyer

You are the person who laughed
at me with your friends
who called me names hours upon hours
without any end.

You are the person who brought me down
It was you who made everybody treat
me like a clown.

You hated me, that’s why
nobody could play with me
I felt lower than a cut down tree

A day would not go by
without the mirror ever seeing me cry

You had fun teasing me
but now you will pay the fee

Silent Skies ~ Uwais Coetzee

Inside me is a world
No person has ever seen
I'm its sole resident
No one else has ever been.
The world inside is living
Or at least it was,
The world outside is killing it
Like a bee losing its buzz.
My inner world used to shine
Now it's simply dull
Dying because of others
Like cattle being prepared for a cull.
The darkness is taking over
Bursting through the sky
Like a haze of misty nothingness
That no bird would even fly.
The world is being enveloped
By the darkness's deadly cries
Soon not much will be left,
Nothing but Silent Skies.

The Love of The Darker Side ~ Malwazi Moholi

You know what's sad?
Being one the reasons that someone wants to take her own life,
That's what!

Always trying
But never beings accepted as enough.
The feeling of failure and disappointment..
You get knowing the feeling is mutual from people close to you
Being an outcast
Among the people you once felt so close to.
Feeling like a pathetic daughter.
A sister.
A friend.
The thought of how the world would be without
You!
Me!
Smiling and laughing
Whereas deep inside I'm dying and crying.
Because I disappointed everyone I love(d)
And chose
To love the darker side.

Pushed Down ~ Nombulelo Jili

(Dedication to my past)

I've been hurt,pushed down
and even treated like dirt.
It's been rough
It's been tough
people called me names
some even said I was playing games.

When I was pushed down
and finally got up,
someone wanted me to drown.
Sometimes I'd cry, but
they all just passed by.
People were mean to me,
some even tried to use me!

I've been there, done that
Been called fat and even a brat.
Don't mind what they say
all you should do each day,
is to pray!
I've been Pushed Down.

Inside My Mind ~ Mduduzi Msibi

Inside my mind
You will never find
A more common lie
Than ‘I am fine.’
For you see,

Inside my mind
I see large lines
Which truly define,
The way I live my life.

Inside my mind
I try and hide
From all the cries
That are wondering why
I refuse to cry.

Inside my mind
I see no light
Only endless fright
That I hide out of sight
Inside my mind.

Coldness in my Heart ~ Sinelisiwe Mkhasibe

I am ice
In a winter’s night
June
In dark, dark and cold place
I am cold
So think twice before touching me
I am ice
I am cold

I write out my emotion through poems
I have no need of love
Because it hurts me
I have my music
I am shielded by thoughts
I am ice

A Bright World, Darkened ~ Charne Williams

The world suddenly dark
No protection, no hope
The idea of good people gone
The thought lost
In that night, a dark world began
The dark dwelled within and around me
Every bright light darkened
Every smile to a tear
All laughter to a painful screech
I try and reach, reach for the light
I couldn’t see it, it wasn’t bright
It pulled me back, it is a monster
I am a monster
I am no longer free.

I am a Lost Soul ~ Matthew Opperman

I am a lost soul
It's an Autumn day
On a cold and wet
May
I am lost
I can't help, but to stare into my love's eyes
Sadly they fail to meet mine,
They seem to penetrate right through me
I am a lost soul
I am an empty cage

I've opened up the gates to my heart
Which was once protected
By the reinforced bars beneath my chest
Only true love was to enter,
But she knew how to shape shift.
I have no need of protection
As it was already to late, I was vulnerable
I am a lost soul
I am an empty cage.

We are all on the search for love
But not me, I've felt the pain it has caused.
I have the scars to prove it
It's a pity no one notices, they are all ignorant
But I shall keep my scar hidden,
Far from civilization and from those
Who judge as it has suffered enough
I am a lost soul
I am an empty cage.

I have myself and my thoughts  to keep me company
I think of where I could have gone wrong,
I'm going insane but I will be shielded
By what's left of my rusted cage
Even though it's duty to protect is now relieved
For the treasure has already been stolen
I am a lost soul
I am an empty cage

And a lost sole is soon forgotten
And an empty cage has lost its value and is too soon discarded.

I am a Lost Soul ~ Shakeel Hoosen

I am a lost soul
In winter,
During July I'm hopeless,
Watching the lonely skies feeling lost in the world,
I'm depressed,
I am a lost soul.

I throw tantrums,
Thinking about the future
Wondering where I am in life,
I have no need for happiness
I am shielded by my fortress of loneliness
Because I'm alone,
Where am I?
I am a lost soul.

How Cruel Could a Man Be? ~ Amanda Buthelezi

Every day I wake up with a smile on my face
Just to hide the pain that is inside
I wake up with a different attitude
Hoping that life would be kind
Hoping that my mind will be strong enough
To let go of the past
And move on with life

But every time I see a man
It reminds me of who you really are
I try to look at them with a different eye
But you made me believe that all men are the same

In front of people's eyes
I smile and laugh like it will never end
But behind closed doors
That's where reality begins
Every night I lie awake
Thinking of what you have done to me
Every time I close my eyes
I hear your voice echoing inside my head
Tears racing down my cheeks
The more I think about it
The more hatred I develop for a man

If it wasn't for you
I would be the same girl I was yesterday
But you were so cruel
You took away the only thing I had left in me
And left me with a wound that will never heal
If I think of a man I think suicide
Because now I have nothing to hold onto
I try to be strong but deep inside I am slowly dying
You took away the only thing I had in me
You took away my pride
How cruel could a man be?

This poem is a breeze, the snow and death ~ Nsiki Gwala

This poem is a cool breeze.
This poem is the freezing snow.
This poem is peaceful death.
This poem is a deep breath of life-
A cool touch that stirs one's senses.
It's a minute wave treading on the dry earth,
That whispers tales of unknown worlds
Where is had danced on calm waters.
This poem is the cool breeze.
This poem is a vast coat of ice,
That ensnares life in crystal flakes.
Memories lost in mortality
Lie buried beneath its ominous beauty.
Like fallen stars illuminating the earth,
This poem is the freezing snow.
This poem is a man lurking in the shadows-
A memory devouring one's courage,
Like a nightmare dwelling in an innocent mind.
It's a lonely journey to an unknown truth,
In which souls fearfully embark.
This poem is peaceful death.
This poem is the cool, tingling breeze.
This poem is the white, freezing snow.
This poem is the inevitable and peaceful death.

Heartless ~ Cheron L'Estrange

I am heartless
I am cold
and unbelieving
I am guarded
I am untrusting

I am as brusque
as I am charming
unshockable
pessimistic
as cool as ice-water
I am heartless

I had one once
a stupid thing
it broke
and there
I left it

Now I am heartless
I am faithless
I am Godless
and alone

I am unafraid
for what is there to fear?
-what else can I lose?

Yuktha Singh ~ Life

Sitting in a stifling, gloomy room
All by my very own.
It’s like I’m trapped in a cage
With extremely little space.
The person who left me here, is gone without a trace.
I seem to be losing my mind,
Going crazy…
As I still can’t find
What I’m looking for.
I see a ray of light,
Hoping to find success and freedom
But there You are in the doorway
Laughing and mocking me,
I’m trying to find a way out,
But something of immense strength is pulling me back.
I hope I find my way, find the right track.

Cheron L'Estrange ~ Without You

So trashed
I can’t remember how to cry
but I’m talking to the walls about you
I won’t talk to you
I can’t make any sense
And what’s the point?
I was supposed to forget you
but you’re all I remember
All I think about
when I  can’t remember how to think
This trip is taking me to hell
Well, guess I died when I lost you
Now I die every day
And you’re the only drug I wanna do
Shaking, hot and cold
My body aches
And if this high had made me bold
I’d say I can’t live without you
I’d say I don’t want to

Cheron L'Estrange ~ Two Poems

Nothing

The sky is blank
and I just don’t know
I won’t even try
to get up

and so I lay there
on the ground, defeated
I do nothing
I become nothing

I watch everything roll away from me
I die as nothing
Because I was too afraid to live

© Cheron L’Estrange

Hands

Hands

and faces
Half lost memories
Meaningless traces
of a different life
A less beautiful lie
Left behind

Half familiar voices
and those known too well
calling back to life
dark and empty choices
A bitter, lonely hell
