Oh what were the joys back then? by Nkazimulo Mvemve

Oh what were the joys back then?

In the simplest way we’d tend to each-others wounds, licking the blood saltier than sea and heal the ends.

It was never difficult when…

That was the trend, although too natural we lent our time to lie on each-others side, by side, by side – like a cube stationary in space and time, Schrödinger’s Cat vol-you-tile.

It was all too different when you meant…

The bending backwards that made my spine auto-correct, the alignment of my shock-ras, when the world was not content with covering our faces.

It put me in dark places.

The spaces that wore a nice black-on-white styled piece - that was the time I understood fashion emotionally - we did an experiment I wore white latex gloves.

I never experienced that excitement.

But it was always vibes when we’d shoot the shots and chat the times, laugh and giggle, sober and high, melancholy and delighted whenever we’d eye-to-eye.

A moth flew in my tea.

The dust it dissipated reminded me of a cold winters night outside those doors, we’d talk and come to light, it felt so right so nice, those stars the crowd  to our comedy.

I remember one about a girl.

And this wasn’t you it was him, that locational coincidence coincided our lives, he knew my name before he met me so fate was destined in that timeline.

 We were all there, back then.

I had dreams after I left of others that weren’t the same or you or them, one of them of my ‘ex’ I hated her guts in there, I’ve never seen you in stages of sleep.

But the memories I hold dear to me.

Although my mind is a clouded and forgetful shade of grey, memories of then piercing reminiscent light that take me back.

To my favourite place, to those always cold days, to those relationships that could have worked, to those emotional explorations, to that last light, last laughs and to that last hug I’ll never forget.

i remember ~ Andrew Allan

[in memory of JUSTIN MAREE a friend]

                                                                                             i remember our fun times together
from first to our last
memories forbidden from being disremembered
a declaration established by philotes herself
for we were friends meant to be
no matter time apart nor count of words pronounced

i remember searching for and painting pinecones
during each occasion hypnos had lost his clasp on us
as we were raiders uncovering our latest catch
artists crafting our supreme masterpiece
heroes leaving legends in that very daycares walls

I remember descending wet grassy hills on cardboard
during the prepared appearance of zeus
impersonating snowboarders
snowboarders we so desperately desired to be

i remember comparing and sharing games
like spies distributing secrets from within the matrix
while loki chuckled at our adjacent

i remember experimenting on our skateboards
with hermes influencing us to reach unattainable speeds

i remember watching over you from a distance

Forever in my Heart ~ Sibongile Maseko

We were just having fun, weren't we?
Those moments werw like a key,
A key to unlock a door full of amazing memories
We didn't even care about our low batteries

All we cared about was seizing the moment
Who knew our time together would be so potent?
We thought nothing in the world could keep us apart,
Our last memory together is engraved in my heart

Stolen Memories & Other Poems ~ Uwais Coetzee

STOLEN MEMORIES

The memories we made
were ours to keep.
And dream up new ones when
we went to sleep.
Happy ones , sad ones,
ones to cherish forever.
We kept them with us
and forgot them never.
Not even when we spoke less
And were talking like we didn't know.
Acting like strangers
Like together we didn't grow.
Maybe I was the one growing,
and you simply moved on.
I slowly realized the truth.
We'd never started but we were done.
Finished before beginning
That's a sad way to say it.
Although it's a sad experience
So the description is fit.
Our memories slipped ,
Into the space where you stood.
You walked and
Started looking good.
You were happier
I was alone.
But I never complained
I'd never moan.
Just a fake smile
To make things seen okay
but I wasn't
When alone I lay.
You left me thinking ,
about everything that day.
You stole our memories
when you walked away

WHERE THINGS WERE DIFFERENT

we wanted a place
where things were different
where crying was normal
and tears were understood.
we wanted a place
where the screams were silence
where the lies were truth
and where love didn't hurt.
we wanted a place
where we could be us
where they could be them
where You could be Mine.
but that place didn't exist ,
the one where we were happy,
where people could understand
without needing to speak.
where the silence spoke volumes
and depression was joy
where tears stayed in our eyes
and didn't have to leave.
we looked and looked
for that different place ,
different like us ,
where I could hide my face.
where nobody would look
for my reasons for being sad
because here my reason is unexplained
but they don't understand that.
they don't understand.
some things are best left alone.
some rocks don't need uncovering.
some boxes don't need opening.
some days
don't need smiles.
And sometimes
just sometimes
we find this different place
where our sadness is normal
and you live at your pace.
where all the people have one thing in common
the common thing being our differences.
where we don't question our change.
don't question us on anything.
where some boxes are left closed
and some days don't have smiles.
where here you aren't judged
for sobbing on the tiles.
for wanting silence
and to live at your own pace.
for silence is all we'd hear
in this oh so different place.

ONCE UPON A TIME

Once upon a time
Before we got old
When we lived the summer
And hated the cold.
When we smiled all the time
and crying was for the weak
and times in class
were nothing but bleak.
Once upon a time
When we were free
when you could try anything
that you could see
when you were friends with everybody
and everyone could play
and nobody worried
about the things you'd say.
How times have changed
Like the leaves on the tree.
And the only person I could truly trust
was me.
I stood for what I wanted
But I stood alone.
And everyone suddenly
Became a drone.
We lived our lives
Seeking the cold
And crying was normal.
Or so we were told.
Now nobody is constant
And everything will change.
If you try to capture the past
suddenly you're too deranged.
Now people don't care
About the one who stands alone.
People don't care
About the one they had to trust.
People don't care about you.
They don't care.
Now they walk around
With hearts all bare
But smiling faces.
Like they don't care.
They go to school
Go home
And leave you there standing
Alone.
Once upon a time
When happiness was mine.
Once upon a time
When things were fine.

Alone & Other Poems ~ Uwais Coetzee

ALONE

You try to make me feel
like you're there through everything
But I know what's real
I'm just that lonely king.
The king of my world
Because I'm alone in it
and have no one to talk to and nothing to do
Except on my throne sit.
I lie here everyday with
headphones on but nothing playing.
Because the music simply brings the words
That remind me of my pain.
It's simply my fate to be alone in this world
There's not much I can do.
So I'll sit here alone with my thoughts
I'll do me and you do you.
Nothing will ever change
I'll always be the same.
That one lonely person
Who never wins the game.
Who stays inside and ignores everyone
In the fear of getting hurt more.
But however I avoid it , it will always be
That my heart will be sore.
I like to think that you care
And maybe you'll show it some day.
But until then I'll be alone and
I'll always feel this way.
The only person I know truly
is me ,myself and I.
I'll probably live that way
Until the day I die.
This loneliness is everywhere
Through every tendon and every bone.
I guess life isn't meant to be shared.
I guess I'll live it alone.

THE SKY

We wanted to be the sky
and be stared at with awe.
The wholly perfect atmosphere
without a single flaw.
We wanted to ride the clouds
to find today's lost dreams.
To discover so many new things
our minds would burst at the seams.
But sometimes we were the storms.
On the other side of the silver lining.
The rain drops were our tears ,
when we were silently crying.
Silence until the thunder slowly followed
like the "Childhood is fun" talk from dad.
Little does he know that childhood is over
Or is this simply our version where our birthday wish was not to be sad.
We wanted to be the sky
And look down upon the rest of the Earth.
Have them look at us , for once
and not the other way around , since birth.
"You can be whatever you want" and
"Follow your dreams" they said.
We wanted to be the sky but we're simply
It's reflection in our tear stained bed.

REMEMBER

One day when this is over
When were old and turning grey
We'll remember the summers the autumns , the springs
The cold winters in May.
Molded by time, we'll be forced to learn
And gain new memories.
We'll remember the family holidays,
The weeks we spent by the sea.
We'll remember the good things and the bad
When we look back and really try.
We'll be those old people who sit and remember
With the tears in our eyes.
As I think ahead to what I'll remember.
I think only of the now.
Will I remember the pains and aches ?
Will I remember the fakes and heartbreaks?
I survive but will I remember the how ?
My thoughts stay preoccupied
About how things will never be.
I think about what I'll think about
When I'm old and struggle to see.
I think about you and how you never stayed
You walked and wanted to be free.
When we're old and turning grey
Will you remember me ?

Empty ~ Nishka Ramkhelawan

Source Unknown

I am empty without you .

I am a vacuum

that will always generate

an overpowering feeling

of purposelessness.

I am still

the silence is like a predator

preying on every last

bit of my existence.

I reach out for your help

yet I soon realize that

I am screaming into

shattered eardrums.

I am drowning in slow motion

only to be resurrected

to drown yet again.

Sevenling (Nostalgia) ~ Shivek Goodoon

I have only 3 things: Fond memories of childhood;
Memories decimated by my own destructive imagination
And a deep desire to relive at least one of them.

I’ve always hated growing up;
My own imagination
And this deep desire that eats away at my soul.

Oh how I wish I was a child once again...

If I Should Die ~ Luyanda Buthelezi

IF I SHOULD DIE, THINK ONLY THIS OF ME
IF I SHOULD DIE,
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I LOVED
EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN’T SPEND MUCH TIME TOGETHER

IF I SHOULD DIE,
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I CARED
EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN’T SEE EYE TO EYE

IF I SHOULD DIE,
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THE LOVE I HAD
FOR YOU WAS IMMORTAL
NOT EVEN HERCULES COULD BE ABLE TO BREAK US UP

IF I SHOULD DIE,
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU
WERE THE SOURCE OF MY HAPPINESS
IF I SHOULD DIE, THINK ONLY THIS OF ME.

I am a Sunset ~ Kelda Maitland

A summer`s day
In a colourful and blossoming
August;
I am happy,
The thought of the beautiful ocean horizon
Freedom is being able to walk on the beach
With smooth sand rolling over your feet.
I am a sunset,
I am an ocean.

I've made great memories,
So many memories taken with a camera in my mind,
But it is all in my memory.
I have no need of hate;
Haters don’t have fame.
True friends are granted to bring out the best in you.
I am a sunset,
I am an ocean.

Don’t talk of angry,
It just cause pain;
within the brain.
I am a sunset,
I am an ocean.

I have my music
And my happy memories to protect me;
I am shielded by my confidence.
The ocean calms my soul.
Pride and joy.
I am a sunset,
I am an ocean.

And the sun sets with you;
And the ocean awaits you.

Thinking of You ~ Asanda Makhubo

Thinking of you?
Why do I hesitate because I know what I saw?
It broke me, it hurt me
I couldn’t believe it
Me broken I never break
I’m not that type
But this situation is too much to handle
Suicide, destroyed, defeated...
Those words crossed my mind so many times
It is affecting me in ways that I don’t understand
Or maybe I choose not to…
But still the pain, the cuts I gave myself
‘Suicide’ … I don’t know why it’s crossing my mind so much
‘I love you’… you always useto say
Then you broke me… I don’t think I’ll ever get you back again…

Winter ~ Nsiki Gwala

Time
floats by
like a breeze
swimming through
the cold
air:
trees
stand bare
and frozen,
as though trapped in
a lifeless
portrait,
like
tragic
memories
dwelling
in
fearful
minds.

Selected Poems by Cheron L'Estrange

All the time

I miss you - all the time
You never knew
but for a long time
you were all I had
to smile about

I miss you - all the time
I never told you
but for a long time
the only comfort I accepted
came from you

I miss you - all the time
But.. missing you
doesn’t mean wanting you back

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You Were
Truth is,
you were God to me
and you condemned me to hell
that is why I became the devil
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Snow-angel

Cold hands, warm heart
For no ice-sculpture

Eyes forever green
but her soul is Winter

She has no heartbeat
but she’s got wings
Snow-angel

Nsiki Gwala ~ Snapshots

I’ll never forget

I’ll never forget on your wrist that silver clock
Shining like the green light on Daisy’s dock.
I’ll never forget those blue-green eyes,
full of curiosity as if in search for a surprise.
I’ll never forget that sweet smile
That made the whole world wait a while.
I’ll never forget the person who you are,
Because you’ll always be my bright and shining star.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do believe in fairies
I do believe in fairies,
Those that float invisibly over the prairies
With beautiful, glittering wings
Like the gold and treasure of many kings.
I do believe in fairies,
Those that eat wild, black berries.
With the speed of lightning they fly,
Spreading  the star-dust through the night sky.
Though the opinion’s of people still varies
The truth still stands- I do believe in fairies.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Last night I had a dream

Last night I had a dream
Of a beautiful place it did seem.
I saw green pastures and blue skies
And felt the true love that never dies.
I saw a beautiful ship sailing by,
While hearing the mysterious noise of nature’s sigh.
I  saw the blue birds floating about with grace
Like the look on a beautiful lover’s face.
Last night I had a dream
Of a beautiful place it did seem
And that place I saw last night at eleven
Was a glimpse into God’s beautiful heaven.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because of Me
Because of me are the skies grey,
Making the world so cold,
Eliminating memories of day.
Because of me are all the dreams lost,
Completely faded in the distance,
Abandoned and in nowhere tossed.
Because of me is love do hateful,
Full of jealousy, secrecy,
So envious, dangerous- ungrateful.
Because of me there’s no tomorrow.
No happiness, no joy,
Just sadness and sorrow.
Because of me is what I see:
Hardship and suffering-
All because of me.
